90%

2015
Animal Welfare Act

Malaysia's Animal Welfare Act 2015 criminalises animal cruelty with fines up to RM100,000 and imprisonment of up to 3 years.

TNR
Trap Neuter Return

The TNR programme is widely adopted across Malaysian cities as a humane and effective method of controlling stray animal populations.

Your First 30 Days

The first month with a newly adopted pet is the most critical. Here is how to make it a success.

Day 1–3
The Decompression Period

Give your new pet space and quiet. Avoid introducing too many people at once. Let them explore their new environment at their own pace. Do not force interaction — allow them to come to you.

Day 4–7
Establishing Routine

Begin a consistent feeding, toilet and sleep schedule. Routine reduces anxiety in animals significantly. Start basic training or litter box familiarisation. Book a vet appointment for a health check.

Week 2
Building Trust

Your pet should begin showing signs of comfort — eating well, exploring freely and seeking attention. Introduce gentle play. If behavioural issues arise, consult your vet before assuming it is a permanent trait.

Week 3–4
Settling In

By now your pet should feel secure in their new home. Their true personality will begin to emerge. Continue reinforcing positive behaviour. This is also a good time to introduce them to other pets if applicable.

The Case for Adoption

Choosing to adopt rather than shop is one of the most impactful decisions you can make.

You Save a Life

Every adoption directly saves an animal's life and frees up shelter space for another animal in need.

Healthier Animals

Shelter animals are typically vaccinated, dewormed and spayed or neutered before adoption — saving you significant veterinary costs.

Fight Puppy Mills

Buying from pet shops often supports unethical breeding operations. Adopting removes demand from these industries.

Unconditional Gratitude

Many adopters report that rescue animals show an extraordinary level of loyalty and affection — as if they know they were given a second chance.
